Aloha to all!
The team had a diverse 4-day work week last week with our usual transecting, trail cutting, inventory, and office work, and the filming of an informational video for the Pacific Seabird Group conference next month. We had fun filming those short clips.
The winter weather has treated us to some rainy days with overcast skies. Excitingly, the first Laysan Albatross / Mōlī hatchling was seen this past week, followed by a couple more throughout the island. They are adorable. We’ve also been monitoring the Hawaiian Monk Seals vigilantly for pregnant seals and pups.
During a recent downpour, Nick and I reorganized our hangout room (The Roost) and created a new lounge chair (that I claimed), making our movie nights extra comfortable. A couple of movies we watched include Goodfellas, Pirates of the Caribbean, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. Saturday night was spent playing Wingspan as requested by Jordan, which he also proceeded to win.
On the menu this week included Jordan’s bacon soup, Grilled Cheese, Jordan’s green curry, Nick’s delicious homemade Pizza, and Meatloaf made by Kayla. Kayla, Jordan, and I made Nick a red velvet cake for his birthday, which looks delicious.
Shout out to Nick, who’s celebrating his birthday this week!
Bird Observations: No bird observations from Nick this week.
